> Community Architexts is a non-profit arts organization based in greater Chicago, Illinois and the Midwest. Founded in 1996, it the mission of Community Architexts to give support to individual artists, writers, and non-profit arts organizations that seek to provide a public voice for underserved and marginalized communities through the creation of communication infrastructures.

> From the identification of key social issues such as, the invisibility of the homeless or the role of inner city women as mothers and caregivers, to the creation and completion of unique works of public art and design, Community Architexts works in a close partnership with members of the community. These collaborative, community-based works feature inscriptions derived from community outreach programming, incorporated into metaphoric structures, spaces and performances that are constructed or presented within public buildings or spaces.

> Works created by Community Architexts have received coverage in various media outlets including, The Chicago Tribune and The Cedar Rapids Gazette, among others. Community Architexts is managed by founder and artistic director, BJ Krivanek, as well as by a local and national board of directors and advisors. As of 2003, Community Architexts had successfully launched initiatives in multiple Chicago neighborhoods. In addition, Community Architexts is pleased to announce the recent completion of Work-Shift in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
